$10.95Written for Ricardo Matosinhos and premiered at the 55th International Horn Symposium, Kingsville, Texas, USA in 2022. SEQUENCES for Horn Solo—by Kazimierz Machala is a virtuoso composition that challenges the hornist and the listener to think beyond the theoretical definition of the term sequence (the repetition of a melodic or harmonic idea at a different tonal level). Throughout the four pages of this composition, he does not merely repeat the melodic ideas, but continually transforms them. As a result, Dr. Machala demonstrates the concepts of melodic development at the highest level. Learn More

$19.95Vitaly Buyanovsky's Espana is one of the most frequently performed works for unaccompanied horn, a brilliant display of exuberance and lyricism inspired by Spanish Folk tradition. In this arrangement, I attempted to reinforce some of these qualities by creating an accompaniment for guitar and double bass, in what may be the first instance of such instrumentation. Both the guitar and the double bass are being employed not only to provide a harmonic background, but also to reflect the rhythmic vitality of the flamenco dancing and to evoke the sound of castanets. -Kazimierz Machala Grade: 5 Learn More

This collection: Solo Studies for the Healthy Hornist contains ten solos of varying styles. Specifically written for the younger student in mind, the studies in this book will be interesting and challenging to more advanced players as well. When I retired from Western Illinois University in 2018, the focus of my teaching changed. No longer was I working with graduate students-or even undergraduate students who were doing more advanced projects on Wagner Tuba or the Natural Horn; many of my students, then, were in the younger years of high school or junior high school. So, even though I was older, I was spending more time with younger students. So, as I was spending more time teaching these younger students, I became more attuned to their activities in band, dance, and various athletic pursuits. As a result, let me give special thanks to these students who provided inspiration and test runs of these solo studies: Noah, Ernesto, Jack, Elena, Emily, Anabelle, Lorelei, Brooks, and Carter. Their energy and imagination have been an inspiration for these Solo Studies. Learn More -

Based on Aaron Brask's creative musicianship and humor as displayed throughout his recording: Music for the Holiday Season, this collection of classic carols can be performed in, at least, two possible formats: 1. as a Horn Quartet, or 2.with Horn Ensembles of 5-6 players or Horn Choirs. A Horn Quartet can perform parts 1 through 4. Larger ensembles may also add the optional descant parts for Joy to the World and O Come All Ye Faithful. Throughout this edition, we have endeavored to capture the spirit and the nuances of Aaron’s recording. His unique style and phrasing is worthy of discussion by teachers and students, and his performance of the fourth parts is a real model of fine low register performance. We hope that you enjoy performing Aaron Brask’s arrangements in this set of Holiday Music for Horn.

This composition - a rainBow of orange above the Green - includes some joyful references to some of my past visits to the BGSU campus-as well as the many happy remembrances of four and a half decades of college teaching. This set of rhapsodic variations depicts a day in the life on a college or university campus starting from the colorful dawn-walking across the campus, hearing the fragments of music in the warm-up sessions in the music building, the classes-some informative and some pedantic, the inspiring moments of repose in the library and art gallery, the excitement of the band playing at an athletic event, and a concert where singers and instrumentalists all come together on stage to perform a final hymn of the school. Like many of my compositions, this work is a set of variations on a theme. Sometimes the theme is a hymn tune or a chorale. Sometimes it is set of variations on a more abstract cantus firmus. In this case, it is a theme found in the letters B, G, C, F, and A! The Three Horn Choirs consist of Choir I: Horn 1, 2, and 3; Choir II: horn 4, 5, and 6; and Choir III: Horn 7, 8, and 9. Within the Three Horn Choirs: 1, 4, and 7 are High Horn Parts; 2, 5, and 6 are middle Horn parts: and 3, 6, and 9 are the Low Horn Parts. As the conductor studies the score, one will see that this provides for many opportunities for antiphonal effects, solo passages for all ensemble members, and symphonic sonorities as one performs the composition. Written for Dr. Jennifer Sholtis and the final concert of the 54th International Horn Symposium held at Texas A&M University - Kingsville, Texas in August of 2022, these old west melodies are On the Trail of the Buffalo-also known as Buffalo Skinners; The Streets of Laredo, Whoopee Ti Yi Yo, Git Along Little Dogies; and Home on the Range. These are all traditional songs that date from the 19th century history of cowboys in the Old West. The original sources of these songs are as varied, diverse, and large as the people and the prairies of The Old West. The stories and lyrics of these songs are found in the works of a number of authors-the earliest large collection is found in the book dating from 1910 by John Lomax: Cowboy Songs and Other Frontier Ballads (published by the MacMillan Company). This Fantasy may be performed by either a Horn Quartet or a Horn Choir. When performed by a Horn Choir, both of the divisi voices in Horn I Measures 107-127 should be played. Also, Horn Choir performances should divide the Fourth Horn parts between parts IVA and IVB. Horn Quartets should use parts I, II, III, and IVA. Learn More -

COMPOSED FOR ANDREW BAIN One of the highlights of the summer of 2020 was the opportunity to participate in a series of internet-based Warm-Up Classes presented by Andrew Bain-Principal Hornist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra and co-hosted by Rupal Bain-of their INVESTED MUSICIAN program. Impressed by Andrew's regular presentation of horn studies in a comfortable and friendly atmosphere, I was inspired to write this piece by the fact that he candidly discussed some of his own personal technical challenges in playing the horn. This Scherzo is dedicated to Andrew Bain, his ongoing artistry, inspiration, and good humor.

$10.00Wachet auf, ruft unsdie Stimme is one of the best know Chorale Preludes of J. S. Bach. The beauty of the work comes not only from its beautiful florid melodic writing, but also from its overall simplicity. Most of the time it is simply two-voice counterpoint; it is only at the entrance of the Chorale melody that it becomes three-voice writing. It is offered here as a special treat for hornists and can be played as a Horn Trio or with a Horn Choir. Learn More

$9.99Duet Kopprasch makes the original etudes more palatable – even (dare we say it) fun by adding a social dimension to the etudes, the same way that team sports make exercise much more engaging than solitary workouts. There is also added musical interest as the original lines dance back and forth between the two parts. So grab your horn, a friend, and have fun! $9.99 Learn More

$9.99Based on the most popular all-time etude collection for horn, 60 Etudes by Georg Kopprasch, Harmony Kopprasch uses the original rhythms and meters, but applies them to a vastly more challenging array of scale and arpeggios types, chords, and keys. The player who knows the originals with their very limited scale types, chords, and keys can take their technique to the next level by revisiting the original pitches in HK in these contemporary harmonic contexts.
