    short description

In 1994, I was commissioned by Randy Gardner to compose a Quartet for Four Horns for a compact disc he was producing for Summit Records in collaboration with Michael Hatfield, Douglas Hill, and David Krehbiel. This Romanza was one of the four movements of that Quartet. In the Fall of 2016, I created this horn and piano setting of the Romanza for a series of recital performances, I was planning for the 2016-2017 academic year. -Randall Faust

  10. Randall Faust's - Holiday Songs for Two Horns (2022) Arranged by Randall Faust

    Starting at: $10.00

A wonderful collection of fifteen Holiday Songs arranged for two horns by Randall E. Faust. Playing Horn Duets has provided some of the most enjoyable moments for me in Horn lessons-both as a student and as a teacher. A couple of years ago, during the Covid-pandemic lockdown, I recorded several of the following duets as part of the project for the Knox-Galesburg Symphony. The recordings of the duets were used as part of a special KGS project that provided Holiday music in support of front-line medical workers. Subsequently, some of my students have also enjoyed playing these. These duets are being published so that more hornists may perform them. I hope you find these arrangements interesting and enjoyable! -Randall E. 16. Aaron Brask's - Holiday Music for Horn Quartet or Choir arranged by Aaron Brask (2021)
    $15.00

Based on Aaron Brask's creative musicianship and humor as displayed throughout his recording: Music for the Holiday Season, this collection of classic carols can be performed in, at least, two possible formats: 1. as a Horn Quartet, or 2.with Horn Ensembles of 5-6 players or Horn Choirs. A Horn Quartet can perform parts 1 through 4. Larger ensembles may also add the optional descant parts for Joy to the World and O Come All Ye Faithful. Throughout this edition, we have endeavored to capture the spirit and the nuances of Aaron’s recording. His unique style and phrasing is worthy of discussion by teachers and students, and his performance of the fourth parts is a real model of fine low register performance. We hope that you enjoy performing Aaron Brask’s arrangements in this set of Holiday Music for Horn.

  17. A Fantasy on Melodies from the Old West for Horn Quartet or Horn Choir (2022)

    Starting at: $15.00

Written for Dr. Jennifer Sholtis and the final concert of the 54th International Horn Symposium held at Texas A&M University - Kingsville, Texas in August of 2022, these old west melodies are On the Trail of the Buffalo-also known as Buffalo Skinners; The Streets of Laredo, Whoopee Ti Yi Yo, Git Along Little Dogies; and Home on the Range. These are all traditional songs that date from the 19th century history of cowboys in the Old West. The original sources of these songs are as varied, diverse, and large as the people and the prairies of The Old West. The stories and lyrics of these songs are found in the works of a number of authors-the earliest large collection is found in the book dating from 1910 by John Lomax: Cowboy Songs and Other Frontier Ballads (published by the MacMillan Company). This Fantasy may be performed by either a Horn Quartet or a Horn Choir. When performed by a Horn Choir, both of the divisi voices in Horn I Measures 107-127 should be played. Also, Horn Choir performances should divide the Fourth Horn parts between parts IVA and IVB. Horn Quartets should use parts I, II, III, and IVA. Learn More

  23. Ancient Scenes for Bass Trombone and Piano
    $15.00

Ancient Scenes for Bass Trombone and Piano was composed for and commissioned by the Bass Trombone virtuoso Jonathan Warburton.

During the year I was composing this work for bass trombone, I was reviewing some picture of a past vacation to Greece. Then, I started thinking how the sound of the bass trombone is often described as a "big block of sound," (like the big blocks of stone in the massive ancient temples.) Furthermore, (with the performance practice on historic natural horns excepted:, the modern trombone is arguably the modern brass instrument that  is played more in the manner of its ancient ancestral brass instruments than any other modern brass instrument. So, the connection was made in my mind - and the idea of Ancient Scenes was born!

The composition is in two movements: I. The Temple at the summit, and II. The Stadium of the Ancient Games. Although I had pictures of those in Athens and Delphi in mind, ruins of ancient temples and stadiums exist throughout the world. So, the sound of the bass trombone is the perfect instrument to evoke the images of those universal and historic Ancient ScenesJune 2015
