$10.00This set of Variations is a comprehensive study of styles, rhythms, articulations, and techniques. When performed in its entirety is a major work for Solo Horn - equal in musical, dramatic, and technical challenge to many other works for Solo Horn—as well as works for orchestra and band - as performed by Professional and University Hornists. This work was commissioned by Nicholas Steffenhagen as a test composition for a research project for his Master's Degree at Illinois State University where he compared practice techniques of Professional and University Hornists. It is a set of variations for a virtuoso hornist - and could be used as a sequential set of studies for developing an advanced level of solo performance. I hope that all hornists enjoy studying and performing these Rhapsodic Variations! Grade: 5-6 Learn More -

These songs of Cui are part of a series of arrangements for a wide group of hornists-from developing players looking for a work for a festival performance-to the professional hornist searching for a lyrical character piece for a recital. This set includes works by Beach, Cui, and Humperdinck. These arrangements are of moderate technical difficulty, and the songs by Cui are meant to be the second in progressive difficulty of this series. For the novice horn player, these Songs provide the opportunity to expand both the pitch and expressive range, as well as to develop the hornist’s ability to coordinate with the pianist. Learn More -
$15.00French Horn Player’s Guide to the Blues (and Beyond) is a new look at how horn players can get in on the joys and benefits of creating their own music and at last take part in the most influential musical genre of the 20th century, the blues. The blues is an aural art, but this method uses notation as a springboard to (paradoxically) getting free of dependence on notation. Players will learn about the structure of the blues and will learn to solo and create bass lines and accompaniments. Players may learn on their own, with a teacher, or with friends. Learn More -

A wonderful collection of fifteen Holiday Songs arranged for two horns by Randall E. Faust. Playing Horn Duets has provided some of the most enjoyable moments for me in Horn lessons-both as a student and as a teacher. A couple of years ago, during the Covid-pandemic lockdown, I recorded several of the following duets as part of the project for the Knox-Galesburg Symphony. The recordings of the duets were used as part of a special KGS project that provided Holiday music in support of front-line medical workers. Subsequently, some of my students have also enjoyed playing these. These duets are being published so that more hornists may perform them. I hope you find these arrangements interesting and enjoyable! -Randall E. The contributions of Philip Farkas in the fields of symphonic horn playing, pedagogy, and instrument design are of such importance that he will certainly be considered a major figure of the twentieth century. As a horn player, he was the only person ever to be offered the solo horn position in each of the "big five" American orchestras (Boston Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra). His first book, The Art of French Horn Playing (Summy-Birchard Music, 1956) is considered the "bible" of horn players and is still a best seller in its field. The Art of Brass Playing (Wind Music, 1962, written in collaboration with the present author) and The Art of Musicianship (Wind Music, 1976) widened his exposure to encompass the entire music profession. The horn he designed with the Frank Holton Company in 1957 immediately established itself as the top-selling American-made horn, a position it continues to hold forty years later. This biography contains a wealth of previously unavailable correspondence, technical material, and photographs. It is a "must" for all horn players and music lovers. - Publisher. Learn More -

$10.95Written for Ricardo Matosinhos and premiered at the 55th International Horn Symposium, Kingsville, Texas, USA in 2022. SEQUENCES for Horn Solo—by Kazimierz Machala is a virtuoso composition that challenges the hornist and the listener to think beyond the theoretical definition of the term sequence (the repetition of a melodic or harmonic idea at a different tonal level). Throughout the four pages of this composition, he does not merely repeat the melodic ideas, but continually transforms them. As a result, Dr. Machala demonstrates the concepts of melodic development at the highest level. Learn More
