A wonderful collection of fifteen Holiday Songs arranged for two horns by Randall E. Faust. Playing Horn Duets has provided some of the most enjoyable moments for me in Horn lessons-both as a student and as a teacher. A couple of years ago, during the Covid-pandemic lockdown, I recorded several of the following duets as part of the project for the Knox-Galesburg Symphony. The recordings of the duets were used as part of a special KGS project that provided Holiday music in support of front-line medical workers. Subsequently, some of my students have also enjoyed playing these. These duets are being published so that more hornists may perform them. Sights and Sounds of the Symposium was composed for Robert Palmer and Vanessa Montelongo on the occasion of the 52nd International Horn Symposium. The first movement, The Bell Tower at Sunrise, is an ever-developing set of variations over an ever-developing repeated thematic motive. A Rondo for the Morning Run, the second movement, is based on the Rondo from the Quartet for Four Horns by Randall Faust and uses the pitch pattern: sol-do-re-sol.

In 1994, I was commissioned by Randy Gardner to compose a Quartet for Four Horns for a compact disc he was producing for Summit Records in collaboration with Michael Hatfield, Douglas Hill, and David Krehbiel. This Romanza was one of the four movements of that Quartet. In the Fall of 2016, I created this horn and piano setting of the Romanza for a series of recital performances, I was planning for the 2016-2017 academic year. -Randall Faust

$15.00Ancient Scenes for Bass Trombone and Piano was composed for and commissioned by the Bass Trombone virtuoso Jonathan Warburton.
During the year I was composing this work for bass trombone, I was reviewing some picture of a past vacation to Greece. Then, I started thinking how the sound of the bass trombone is often described as a "big block of sound," (like the big blocks of stone in the massive ancient temples.) Furthermore, (with the performance practice on historic natural horns excepted:, the modern trombone is arguably the modern brass instrument that is played more in the manner of its ancient ancestral brass instruments than any other modern brass instrument. So, the connection was made in my mind - and the idea of Ancient Scenes was born!
The composition is in two movements: I. The Temple at the summit, and II. The Stadium of the Ancient Games. Although I had pictures of those in Athens and Delphi in mind, ruins of ancient temples and stadiums exist throughout the world. So, the sound of the bass trombone is the perfect instrument to evoke the images of those universal and historic Ancient Scenes. June 2015
