  3. A Fantasy on Melodies from the Old West for Horn Quartet or Horn Choir (2022)

    Starting at: $15.00

Written for Dr. Jennifer Sholtis and the final concert of the 54th International Horn Symposium held at Texas A&M University - Kingsville, Texas in August of 2022, these old west melodies are On the Trail of the Buffalo-also known as Buffalo Skinners; The Streets of Laredo, Whoopee Ti Yi Yo, Git Along Little Dogies; and Home on the Range. These are all traditional songs that date from the 19th century history of cowboys in the Old West. The original sources of these songs are as varied, diverse, and large as the people and the prairies of The Old West. The stories and lyrics of these songs are found in the works of a number of authors-the earliest large collection is found in the book dating from 1910 by John Lomax: Cowboy Songs and Other Frontier Ballads (published by the MacMillan Company). This Fantasy may be performed by either a Horn Quartet or a Horn Choir. When performed by a Horn Choir, both of the divisi voices in Horn I Measures 107-127 should be played. Also, Horn Choir performances should divide the Fourth Horn parts between parts IVA and IVB. Horn Quartets should use parts I, II, III, and IVA. Learn More
  4. Three Songs by Cesar Cui arranged by Andrew Sehmann

    Starting at: $15.00

These songs of Cui are part of a series of arrangements for a wide group of hornists-from developing players looking for a work for a festival performance-to the professional hornist searching for a lyrical character piece for a recital. This set includes works by Beach, Cui, and Humperdinck. These arrangements are of moderate technical difficulty, and the songs by Cui are meant to be the second in progressive difficulty of this series. For the novice horn player, these Songs provide the opportunity to expand both the pitch and expressive range, as well as to develop the hornist’s ability to coordinate with the pianist. Learn More
  5. Songs for Children Op. 61 by Edvard Grieg arranged for Horn and Piano by Andrew Sehmann (2022)

    Starting at: $15.00

The songs of Grieg are part of a series of arrangements for a wide group of hornists-from developing players looking for a work for a festival performance-to the professional hornist searching for a lyrical character piece for a recital. This set also includes works by Beach, Cui, and Humperdinck. These arrangements are of moderate technical difficulty and are meant to test numerous aspects of horn playing outside of high playing. These songs by Grieg are the simplest in difficulty of this set of arrangements. Grieg's Children's songs were picked to teach a student how to approach playing with a pianist. Not only is the horn melody always doubled in the piano, but the arrangements are also meant to be simple collaborations. The range of each piece keeps to a middle-low register so that any student, almost regardless of time put into the instrument, could begin working on one of the movements. The keys are simple, whether in sharp or flat keys. Grade: 2-3 Learn More
  6. Berceuse, Op. 40, No. 2 by Amy Beach arranged for Horn and Piano by Andrew Sehmann (2022)

    Starting at: $15.00

This Berceuse is from a collection of character pieces composed by Amy Beach in 1898: Three Compositions: “La Captive,” “Berceuse,” and “Mazurka.” The Berceuse is a short lullaby in ternary ABA form. This version of the work does not remain at pitch but instead has been lowered by two octaves to allow it to fit comfortably on the horn. Some of the markings have also been adjusted to make sense on horn compared to the original. The Berceuse is part of a series of arrangements meant for a wide group of hornists-from developing players looking for a work for a festival performance -to the professional hornist searching for a lyrical character piece for a recital. This set also includes works by Cui, Grieg, and Humperdinck. Beach's Berceuse is the most difficult of this set of arrangements. These arrangements are of moderate technical difficulty, and are meant to test numerous aspects of horn playing outside of high playing. The Berceuse includes the study of ornamentation, middle register endurance, and the study of the sharp key-D major concert. Grade: 3-4 Learn More
  7. Aaron Brask's - Holiday Music for Horn Quartet or Choir arranged by Aaron Brask (2021)
    $15.00

Based on Aaron Brask's creative musicianship and humor as displayed throughout his recording: Music for the Holiday Season, this collection of classic carols can be performed in, at least, two possible formats: 1. as a Horn Quartet, or 2.with Horn Ensembles of 5-6 players or Horn Choirs. A Horn Quartet can perform parts 1 through 4. Larger ensembles may also add the optional descant parts for Joy to the World and O Come All Ye Faithful. Throughout this edition, we have endeavored to capture the spirit and the nuances of Aaron’s recording. 15. Espana for Horn, Guitar and Double Bass by Vitaly Buyanovsky arranged by Kazimierz Machala
    $19.95

Vitaly Buyanovsky's Espana is one of the most frequently performed works for unaccompanied horn, a brilliant display of exuberance and lyricism inspired by Spanish Folk tradition. In this arrangement, I attempted to reinforce some of these qualities by creating an accompaniment for guitar and double bass, in what may be the first instance of such instrumentation. Both the guitar and the double bass are being employed not only to provide a harmonic background, but also to reflect the rhythmic vitality of the flamenco dancing and to evoke the sound of castanets. -Kazimierz Machala Grade: 5 Learn More
